Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing isn't as woo-woo as it sounds. It's science! The 'Hypno' part is only a percentage of the course which focuses on the physiology of birth, navigating the maternity system, birthing hormones, techniques for managing labour and how your partner can play a part in advocating for you during pregnancy and labour.

▶ I've already booked/completed an antenatal course? Will I benefit from it?

Yes! Although my Hypnobirthing course covers some of what you'll learn in antenatal classes, the content is very different and goes a lot deeper, exploring the mind-body connection, how to make decisions and what can influence your labour and birth on a subconscious level. It is fine to do both antenatal and Hypnobirthing, although some clients choose to just take a Hypnobirthing course. The important thing to remember is that the more information and tools you have, the easier it is for you to make choices that matter to you.

▶ When is the right time to start a Hypnobirthing Course?

The ideal time to start Hypnobirthing is after the 20 week scan. Most clients take my course when they are 20-30 weeks pregnant, although I have also worked with people past 30+ weeks. The thing to be aware of is the earlier you start, the more time you have to practice the techniques for labour.

▶ Does my partner need to do the course with me?

Yes! Hypnobirthing courses are more for partners than they are the person giving birth. This is because if you remove fear from birth and listen to your body, you'll be able to labour on your own. At the end of the day we are mammals and no other animal questions if they will be able to do it. But birth partners can often feel like a spare part, powerless or traumatised during birth, so my course gives them a role and helps them feel in control, prepared and confident to support you during labour.

▶ Can you attend my baby's birth?

I would love to but sadly no.. Although my long term goal is to train as a birth and postnatal doula, I'm not currently qualified to attend your birth. There are many doula's around though so I can signpost you if this is something you are looking for.

▶ Is Hypnobirthing worth the money?

Without a doubt.. 100% YES! From my own experience and how I have seen my clients navigate birth, assures me that you will feel exactly the same. Investing in your birth preparation is worth every penny, much more so than any baby equipment (that you probably won't use). All your baby needs is YOU and taking a Hypnobirthing course ensures you have the best start as a parent.
